The chessboard is white Carrara marble with lapis-blue squares, set on deep navy velvet. Pyramid chocolates topped with gold leaf, cocoa-dusted truffles and white chocolates with dark drizzle take the place of chess pieces. Hard directional light from the upper left casts long shadows. The finish is a rich, editorial still life.
